Volkswagen Launches Gran Lavida Hatch in China2013-07-01 中文版
The China only Gran Lavida hatch hit the market in China earlier today with pricing from 115,900RMB to 163,900RMB depending on specification. The new hatchback was first aired at the Shanghai Auto Show earlier this year alongside its sedan variant and was well received by the crowds that swarmed the VW stand.
The Lavida range was developed in partnership between Shanghai Auto and Volkswagen specifically for the Chinese market, the Lavida hatch will sit below the Golf which is sold by FAW-VW joint venture partnership. Engine power comes from the slim choice of a 1.6L naturally aspirated engine and a range topping 1.4TSI paired to manual and VW’s flagship DSG gearbox. Chinese media have been quick to say the Gran Lavida looks like a wagon – a fair comparison considering the large slice of glass used between the B and C pillars.
The Lavida enters itself into a tough market segment with stiff competition from its own Golf, Ford Focus, Citroen C-Quattre (C4) etc. Later this year Fiat will launch their own hatch/wagon variant of the Fiat Viaggio.
